IN SIMPLE TERMS
What is a nail correction system?
A thin brace usually metal or composite is attached to the nail surface. As the nail grows, the brace applies gentle pressure to gradually change its shape and direction.
No injections, no cutting, no surgery
Applied at the clinic, checked at follow-up visits. You can walk and wear shoes normally while using it
SITUATIONS
When is this the right choice?
Correction systems work best when the nail structure itself is the root cause not just a one-off ingrowth.
01
Recurring ingrown nails
The same nail keeps becoming problematic despite treatment
02
Strongly curved nail shape
Naturally curved nails that press into surrounding skin
03
Chronic discomfort in footwear
Persistent pressure or pain that affects daily activity
04
Preference to avoid surgery
A non-invasive alternative when a surgical option has been mentioned
05
Post-treatment stabilisation
Used after ingrown nail treatment to prevent the problem from returning
06
Nail shape change after injury
Nails that began growing differently following damage or illness
TYPES
Which system is used?
The right system depends on the nail's shape and the degree of curvature. We assess this at your first appointment.

Metal brace
A thin wire or band affixed across the nail. Works by spring tension. The most widely used system.

Composite brace
An adhesive layer bonded directly to the nail surface. Thinner profile barely visible in use.

Combined approach
In some cases, correction is paired with nail treatment. We address both the symptom and the cause.

TIMELINE
How long is the correction worn?
3 - 12 months
Typical treatment period
Duration varies between individuals. The main factors:
• Degree of curvature at the start
• How quickly the nail grows
• Nail thickness and condition
• Response to the correction over time
Progress is assessed at each follow-up visit. We adjust if needed.

Common questions
Have a question not covered here? You are welcome to contact us before booking.
Most people feel no discomfort once the brace is in place. There may be mild awareness of it for the first day or two. We adjust fit if anything feels wrong.
Yes. Everyday activity including sports is generally fine. We give you specific guidance based on the system used and your lifestyle.
For many patients, yes. Younger nails respond particularly well. Results depend on individual nail growth and how consistently the brace is worn.
The brace sits on the nail surface and is small. Composite systems are nearly invisible. We can discuss this at your first appointment if it matters to you.
We monitor progress at every visit. If the correction is not responding as expected, we discuss alternatives — including whether a different approach would be more suitable.
